Action Points for your Success in 2017

Here’s my list of 10 simple Action Points to make your 2017 the best year ever.

They’re not complicated.

They wont’t require special skills.

But trust me, they’ll work.

  1. Breathe more
  2. Be gratefull
  3. Take a 15 minute walk after every meal
  4. Get 10000 steps a day
  5. Brainstorm ideas
  6. Read. Read. Read more
  7. Forget TV
  8. Compliment 1 person a day. Strangers are welcome. But don’t be fake.
  9. Learn a new skill
  10. Network. Meet new people. Meet different people.
  11. Save 10% of your income

Actually, there’s 11. This means you’re already winning.


The Zen story of “Maybe”

There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. “Such bad luck,” they said sympathetically. “Maybe,” the farmer replied.

The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. “How wonderful,” the neighbors exclaimed. “May be,” replied the old man.

The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. “May be,” answered the farmer.

The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out. “May be,” said the farmer.

The 1% rule

Each of us is capable of a little more.

Think of something you want to be better at – work, home, gym, sports. Then make a list of actions, short action points.

Then, write down how can you improve 1% on each one of those actions points.

It’s effortless.

It takes few time.

But it takes insight.

And you know what? 1% improvement a month = 12% improvement a year.

Just a little more…that’s the 1% rule.

What’s your definition of Emotional Intelligence?

In the decision making process, our emotions play a key role.

How big is a problem, when we are at our best? And when we are at our worst?

Although the term first appeared in a 1964 paper by Michael Beldoch, it gained popularity in the 1995 book by that title, written by  Daniel Goleman.

But how to define Emotional Intelligence? It can be defined as the ability to monitor one’s own and other people’s emotions, to discriminate between different emotions and label them appropriately and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior (source : Wikipedia).

Simply put, how do you let you emotions determine your future? 

How do you deal with your emotions?

Do you know yourself deeply enough?

Can you overcome negativity, controlling your thoughts and emotions?

I know it’s hard. But it has to be done.

Put your emotions in the right place, and make them work on your favour. That’s my definition of Emotional Intelligence.
